Oboz Sawtooth X vs. Bridger: which one should you get?

Both are Oboz favourites, and both come in low and mid heights. The Sawtooth X is the newer, more cushioned shoe. The Bridger has long been the support-and-durability pick.

Popular Oboz models explained

Here are the main Oboz families we carry, with what Oboz itself says about each.

Oboz Sawtooth X

Oboz says the original Sawtooth put it on the map, and the X is the update. It adds an Adaptive Cushioning Technology midsole, a new outsole and sharper styling. Uppers are oiled nubuck and Cordura, with recycled laces and webbing. The men's Sawtooth X Low is our best-selling Oboz.

How to choose your Oboz hiking boots

  1. Pick low or mid. Low shoes are lighter and cooler for day hikes and travel. Mid boots give more ankle support on rough ground or with a pack.
  2. Decide on waterproofing. Look for B-DRY in the name for a waterproof/breathable membrane. Non-waterproof versions breathe better and suit dry, warm trails.
  3. Match the model to your trail. Sawtooth X for cushioned, all-round hiking. Bridger for support and durability. Katabatic for lighter trail miles. Bozeman and Emma for town and easy paths.
  4. Check the fit. Oboz shapes its O FIT insole to the last and size of each shoe. Read the size notes on the product page, and use our free 30-day returns if the fit isn't right.

Oboz: frequently asked questions

Are Oboz hiking boots waterproof?

Many are. Styles with B-DRY in the name use Oboz's waterproof, breathable membrane, and some use Gore-Tex. Others, like many low shoes and sandals, aren't waterproof. Check the title and description of the exact pair before ordering. Waterproof pairs are warmer and less breathable, so for dry summer trails a non-waterproof shoe can be more comfortable.

Are Oboz good hiking boots?

We can't speak for every hiker, but here is what Oboz says. Its O FIT insole is shaped to the last and size of each shoe, and the brand describes the Sawtooth as comfortable right out of the box. The Sawtooth and Bridger are among our best-selling Oboz styles, so look there first.

Where is Oboz from?

Montana. Oboz was founded in 2007 near Bozeman, and its name blends "outdoors" and "Bozeman". The company is still based there and is part of KMD Brands, the group that also owns Kathmandu and Rip Curl. We carry both the men's and women's lines, and every product page shows the model's details.

Does Oboz make winter boots?

Yes. We carry the insulated Bridger boots in several heights, plus the Bangtail Mid and Andesite Mid winter boots. REI lists the Bridger insulated boots with B-DRY waterproofing and 400 g of insulation. Check each product page for insulation and the sole before you buy.

Does Oboz make wide shoes?

Oboz offers wide versions of some models, such as the Bridger Mid, according to retailers that carry them. Our listings are regular width unless the title says wide, so look at the size selector on each product page. If you're unsure, our 30-day free returns apply.

Do Oboz shoes run true to size?

Oboz describes the Sawtooth as having a roomy toe box. Feet differ, though, so check the size chart on each product page and compare it to a shoe you already own. If it isn't right, returns are free within 30 days in Canada and the USA.

Where can I buy Oboz shoes in Canada?

At WOOKI. We're a Canadian online shoe store in Gatineau, Québec, with 206 Oboz styles from $44.99 CAD to $249.99 CAD. Shipping is free in Canada (except YT, NT and NU) and the USA, with no minimum.
